{"id":1202,"date":"2022-06-29T04:46:29","date_gmt":"2022-06-29T04:46:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/horvats.com.au\/backoffice\/?p=1202"},"modified":"2022-06-29T04:46:29","modified_gmt":"2022-06-29T04:46:29","slug":"whats-ahead","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pma-prod.horvats.com.au\/whats-ahead\/","title":{"rendered":"What\u2019s Ahead?"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>As another year comes to pass, there is always an expectation or maybe a desire to forecast what may be ahead.<br><br>In financial forecasting there is an established rule that prohibits projections based on previous performance. \u00a0This is indeed a wise and prudent instruction that is too often ignored and always to the investors detriment. \u00a0 Human nature being what it is and always craving for the answers to the unknown (we just can\u2019t accept that future is never predictable) leads us too often into temptation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As each calendar year comes to the end, I enjoy going through the predictions and forecasts of financial and economic gurus, fund managers and assorted professionals. The same experts are never deterred by their previous failures and march on with dazzling range of statistics, formulas and of course previous data and lessons learned from the past. \u00a0 If one took the time, as I do, to check out these very experts previous forecasts (for example, over the last 5 years) one would be astonished with the consistency of their contradictions and the inaccuracy of their predictions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>How could anybody predict the crisis in Europe or even try to understand the impact the Greek economy would have on the global market? \u00a0How do you account for the impact of unforeseen climate changes, \u00a0tsunamis, \u00a0acts of terrorism, \u00a0rogue bank traders, \u00a0Arabic countries uprising, \u00a0and how does anybody know what China is likely to do next?<br><br>Markets; whether they be \u00a0shares, \u00a0property, \u00a0bonds, \u00a0commodities or currency are always fairly priced if they are publicly traded. \u00a0 Therefore the market index is the only real price and the rest is speculation. \u00a0 The greatest form of speculation is predicting a future price which is based on future events.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Looking at the major global events of the past 12 months, which of those were predictable?
